Clem Cahill

Biography
Clem Cahill

Clem Cahill is a Technical Director – Tailings at GHD, based in Tasmania, with extensive experience in the assessment, operation, and governance of tailings storage facilities across Australia. He works closely with mine operators, Responsible Tailings Facility Engineers (RTFEs), and Engineers of Record to support safe, practical, and defensible tailings management outcomes.

Clem’s professional experience spans tailings facility operation, surveillance, risk management, and site governance, with a strong focus on applying industry standards and regulatory frameworks in a manner that is effective and workable at an operational level. He has been actively involved in supporting site teams through tailings operations, OMS development and implementation, and operational risk management, particularly in complex and evolving operating environments.

As Convenor of the 2026 ANCOLD Tailings Dam Operators Forum, Clem is committed to delivering a forum that is strongly operator‑focused, emphasising practical learning, open discussion, and the sharing of real‑world experience to support continual improvement in tailings dam safety and performance.

Angus Swindon

Biography
Angus Swindon

Angus has over 30 years’ experience in water supply engineering and hydropower, predominantly in the development and management of headworks and dam assets. His career has included roles in large dam owning businesses and engineering consultancies, in both technical and executive capacities. He is currently Director and Principal of Tasset Consulting, providing independent consulting services within the water and hydropower sectors to regulators, agencies and businesses on the journey of prudent asset portfolio development and risk management. He also currently serves on the ANCOLD Board as Past Chair.

Nathan Jago

Biography
Nathan Jago

Nathan Jago is an Engineering Projects Coordinator at Grange Resources, based at the Savage River operation in Tasmania. Nathan has over 14 years’ experience at Savage River, having commenced his career in site operations before transitioning into engineering project delivery.
Over the past several years, Nathan has been closely involved in the Main Creek Tailings Dam (MCTD) closure program, including clay and rock beach covering works and the construction of stabilisation berms to support the main embankment. His work has focused on delivering practical, compliant outcomes that support long term tailings storage stability and closure objectives.
Nathan now specialises in tailings dam and closure-related projects, combining strong operational knowledge with engineering project coordination. He enjoys working on complex tailings dam challenges and contributing to safe, sustainable outcomes for the site.

Edgar Salas

Biography
Edgar Salas

Edgar is a Geotechnical Engineer with 19 years of international experience, currently serving as a GHD Associate and the Engineer of Record for Newmont's Cadia Valley operations. His career has spanned diverse geographies, including South Africa, Chile, Papua New Guinea, Venezuela, the UK, and Australia, where he has established himself as a subject matter expert in the design, evaluation, and management of complex tailings dams. Edgar is also a member of the ANCOLD Tailings Advisory Committee and is contributing to the development of the new ICOLD guideline on tailings and embankment dam surveillance.

Pamela Sato

Biography
Pamela Sato

Pamela Soto is the Manager of Tailings and Water for MMG’s Australian operations, a role she has held for almost seven years. She is the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) for MMG’s tailings storage facilities at Rosebery in Tasmania and at Dugald River in Queensland. Pamela has more than 25 years of experience in the mining industry, having commenced her career at mine site in the mid 1990s and spent most of her professional life in tailings and mine waste engineering. Her background includes extensive experience in consulting, covering from design, construction, and technical governance of dams and tailings facilities across different jurisdictions, before transitioning back into the owner side role focused on TSFs lifecycle stewardship, risk management, and operational delivery.

Danny Kube

Biography
Danny Kube

Danny Kube is an experienced tailings and processing professional with more than 20 years of operational experience at Bluestone Mining Tasmania Joint Ventures’ Renison Bell operation on Tasmania’s west coast.
Danny commenced his career at Renison in 1992 as a Fitter and Machinist, before returning to site in 2010 as a Processing Technician. Since then, he has performed several roles, culminating in his most recent position as Superintendent – Mill Operations. In this role, he oversaw five downstream tailings lifts and is currently responsible for tailings infrastructure, operational risk, and site-wide compliance.
Danny’s career reflects a strong combination of hands-on operational knowledge, safety leadership, and collaborative engagement with engineers and external specialists, making him a valuable contributor to discussions on practical tailings management and implementation.

William Boyd

Biography
William Boyd

William Boyd is a geotechnical engineer with four years of experience in the mining industry. He holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Wollongong and specialises in tailings dam monitoring and governance. William has previously worked for Newmont's Cadia operation and is currently employed as an engineer with BHP in the tailings team at Prominent Hill.
