Site Tours

An integral part of the Tailings Dam Operators Forum is the inclusion of site visits within the program, offering a valuable opportunity to step beyond the forum room and experience tailings dam operations firsthand. Join us as we explore some of Tasmania’s most significant Tailings infrastructure, gaining practical insights while connecting with peers in a real-world setting.

Renison Tin Mine

The Renison visit will focus on both historical and active tailings infrastructure, along with emerging reprocessing opportunities.
The tour will include:
  • Inspection of TSFs A, B, C and D-Dam, including operational status, construction approach, and closure progress
  • Comparison of closed and operational facilities, with discussion on performance, seepage management, and monitoring practices
  • Overview of the proposed Rentails Project, including tailings reprocessing and integration with existing facilities
  • Summary of the site water management system, including seepage recovery, water balance, and the water treatment plant

Rosebery Mine

At Rosebery, the focus will be on an active TSF currently undergoing closure trial investigation. The site provides a strong example of a facility operating while advancing closure planning.
The tour will include:
  • Overview of the Bobadil TSF, including current operations, instrumentation, and embankment configuration
  • Insights into managing a TSF that is simultaneously under construction and in operation
  • Review of closure trials, including cover system concepts and rehabilitation objectives
  • Discussion of key closure planning considerations, including integration with ongoing operations and long-term performance
